With new hires suspended by many businesses as the combined effects of slow economic growth and load shedding take hold, businesses are having to try and do more with fewer resources.
Locally, and globally, the technology industry is still dominated by men, with only 23% of tech jobs in South Africa held by women – according to Women in Tech ZA.
South Africa loses R2.2 billion per year to cybercrime, according to a 2020 Accenture report. Kaspersky research shows that 32.5% of local users were affected by online threats last year.
South African-based insurtech platform Root has expanded to the UK market.
COO Charlotte Koep says Root’s first foray into global markets is proving encouraging.
“The funding will be used to expand Port443’s reach further into the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region by adding key software development personnel, and supporting our marketing, sales and product enhancements for early adopters of next generation automations in cybersecurity,” says Port443 co-founder and director ML Conradie.
